Summary / Suitability
Topanga Gold is an F1 hybrid combining the tropical sweetness of Kona Gold with the dense, fuel-rich structure of Topanga OG. Bred in Jamaica in 2023 and later germinated and selected from 50 plants in Colombia in 2025, this hybrid unites old-world island vigor with modern Californian potency.
Genetic Background
Kona Gold is a long-standing Hawaiian sativa known for its bright tropical fruit notes, citrus tang, and clear euphoric high. Topanga OG (also known as Topanga Canyon OG or Triangle Kush Topanga) originates from California’s OG Kush lineage and is noted for its dense, resin-heavy buds, strong pine-fuel aroma, and calming potency.
The combination brings together the structure and terpene complexity of modern OG hybrids with the tropical energy and light-adaptive traits of classic Hawaiian genetics.
Plant Characteristics
Three main phenotypes were observed in the initial Colombian selection:
- Tall, open plants with Kona Gold influence: long internodes, narrow 7-blade leaves, and vigorous vertical stretch.
- Medium-balanced phenotypes showing hybrid uniformity—broad leaves, sturdy stems, and strong apical dominance.
- Compact bushy forms leaning toward Topanga OG, with short internodes, wide leaves, and dense floral stacking.
Resin production begins early and increases steadily through mid-flower. Trichomes form thick layers across both calyxes and sugar leaves. Plants respond best to organic feeding and stable moisture, with strong results under natural light.
Flower & Aroma Profile
Aromas transition from bright citrus and tropical fruit in early flower to deeper pine, fuel, and sweet earthy spice as buds mature. The bouquet balances the sharp freshness of the Kona parent with the heavier kush base of Topanga OG.
Buds are moderately dense, spear-shaped, and heavily trichome-coated by week eight. Pistils mature quickly, and calyxes swell late in the cycle. The smoke carries layered tones of lime, papaya, and pine, finishing with a kush-fuel edge and faint sweetness.
Growing Tips (Indoor & Outdoor)
Indoor: Train early to manage the Kona-influenced stretch. Top once or twice to form a more even canopy. Plants prefer high light intensity and moderate nutrient strength.
Outdoor / Greenhouse: Excellent under full sun and organic conditions. Performs best in living soil with balanced moisture and airflow. The shorter OG-leaning phenos are more compact and finish faster, while the taller tropical forms benefit from staking. Flowering finishes in 9–11 weeks depending on phenotype and light conditions.
Effects & Potency
Estimated THC levels range from 20–24%. Effects begin with an uplifting, creative onset from the Kona side, leading into a smooth, relaxing body tone influenced by Topanga OG. The balance offers mental clarity with mild euphoria and a calm, grounded finish—ideal for daytime focus or evening relaxation.
