Summary / Suitability

Punto Rojo Colombian Reserve is a faithful preservation of one of Colombia’s most legendary highland sativas. This line descends from original red-pistil Punto Rojo plants cultivated in the Sierra Nevada and central cordillera throughout the 1970s–80s, known worldwide for their electric, long-lasting high and exotic terpene profile. Revived and stabilized by Lost Pheno Genetics from seedstock maintained in Colombia, this selection showcases vibrant pink-to-red stigmas, tropical vigor, and a euphoric, creative effect. Ideal for collectors, preservationists, and connoisseurs who value pure Colombian sativa heritage in its most authentic form.

Genetic Background

Punto Rojo (“Red Point”) is among the oldest known Colombian landraces, famed for its bright red pistils and aromatic, incense-like flowers. This modern preservation line represents a carefully selected expression from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region, refined for consistency while retaining its wild, soaring sativa character. These genetics trace directly to the same populations that influenced global classics such as Haze, Panama Red, and Santa Marta Gold, making it a living relic of pre-hybrid tropical cannabis.

Plant Characteristics

This cultivar grows extremely tall with strong vertical dominance and elegant branching. The leaf structure is thin, elongated, and deeply serrated, typical of pure equatorial sativas. Plants exhibit a vibrant green hue with a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, promoting airflow and sunlight penetration through dense canopies. During flowering, long conical spears form, covered with glistening resin and fiery red pistils that gradually fade into amber and rose tones as maturity approaches. The structure is open and flexible, allowing it to endure wind, humidity, and long photoperiods without loss of form.

Flower Characteristics

The flowers are visually striking — large, elongated colas with a mix of red, pink, and gold pistils emerging from fine, resin-dusted calyxes. Despite the airy sativa structure, the buds exude intense resin production with large trichome heads and high terpene output. Aromas combine sweet tropical fruit, incense wood, and spice, with undertones of guava and passionfruit. The cured flower develops a rich sweetness, while the smoke is smooth and fragrant, reminiscent of church incense and sun-dried mango.

Growing Tips

Indoor: Best grown in tall, ventilated spaces with long flowering schedules. Recommended light cycles are 11/13 or 10/14 to encourage earlier ripening. Training and topping help manage height. Low nutrient feeding and stable warmth (26–30°C) ensure optimal expression.
Outdoor / Tropical Zones: Performs superbly in full-sun environments with long seasons. Highly resistant to mold, rain, and temperature fluctuations, thriving from sea level up to 2,000 meters. In ideal conditions, flowering completes between late November and January. Patience rewards growers with one of the most aromatic and vibrant heirloom flowers in Colombia’s genetic history.

Effects & Potency

The high is uplifting, long-lasting, and euphoric, with no ceiling effect typical of equatorial sativas. It begins with mental clarity and a sense of alert creativity, evolving into a wave of joyful focus and sensory awareness. At higher doses, it can become deeply introspective or mildly psychedelic, making it ideal for music, art, and spiritual exploration.

Appearance & Aroma / Flavor Profile

Appearance: Long red-pistil colas with open sativa structure, light green calyxes, and high resin visibility.
Aroma: Sweet tropical fruit, spice, incense, and woody floral musk.
Flavor: Smooth and complex—red fruit sweetness over sandalwood and herbal spice.

Cultural Significance

Punto Rojo is a cornerstone of Colombia’s cannabis identity, representing the golden era of tropical landrace cultivation. Its vivid red hairs and uplifting effects made it a favorite for export during the 1970s and 1980s. Today, Lost Pheno Genetics’ Colombian Reserve preservation brings back this cultural icon, restoring one of the rarest and most beautiful heirlooms still thriving in the mountains of Colombia.
