Summary / Suitability

Colombian Purple Gold is a highland sativa originating from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. It represents a refined inbred line (IBL) of Punto Rojo, selected for purple and red pigmentation and improved field uniformity. This variety performs reliably under both indoor and outdoor tropical conditions, combining the morphology of traditional Colombian sativas with modern production stability.

Genetic Background

The population descends from Red Point material collected in the Sierra Nevada during the 1970s. Over time, cooler high-altitude conditions and repeated inbreeding produced distinct purple phenotypes known locally as “Punto Morado.” This version maintains the full sativa character of the original Colombian stock while showing lower hermaphroditic expression through careful selection. Anthocyanin development is environmentally induced, expressed most strongly in high humidity and moderate temperature drops at night.

Plant Characteristics

Plants show vigorous sativa growth with long internodes, narrow leaflets, and flexible branching. Structure is upright and open, with moderate stretch at flowering onset. The foliage is light to medium green, often showing purple tones in petioles and stems during late stages. This variety exhibits good adaptability to variable humidity, maintaining structural integrity in both soil and container systems.

Flower & Aroma Profile

Inflorescences are long and moderately dense for a tropical sativa. Calyxes display violet to magenta coloration during maturation, with orange to red pistils and visible trichome coverage. The aroma is characterized by citrus peel, red fruits, and floral notes with an earthy background. Cured material retains a mild sweetness and light spice, consistent with landrace sativa profiles from northern Colombia.

Growing Tips

Flowering requires approximately eleven to thirteen weeks, depending on environment and photoperiod. Outdoors, plants prefer full sun and well-drained soils with moderate nutrition. Indoors, a shorter photoperiod (11/13) helps manage height and synchronize ripening. Cooler nighttime temperatures enhance pigmentation. The cultivar tolerates humidity and resists common fungal pressure but benefits from adequate spacing and airflow.

Effects & Potency

Effects are clear and stimulating, with a gradual cerebral onset typical of tropical sativas. The moderate THC content is balanced by elevated levels of secondary cannabinoids and terpenes, contributing to smooth, sustained psychoactivity. The overall profile is energetic and functional, suitable for daytime use.
